The Kogi State Government has approved the award of a contract for the dualisation of the 9km Kogi Airport Road.
The project, covering about 9.1 kilometres, was awarded to after a competitive bidding process involving five firms, with the company emerging as the preferred bidder.
Presenting the award certificate in on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Transport, , said the road would link the proposed ultra-modern Kogi Airport to the state’s road network.
Abdulsalam, who represented the Commissioner for Works and Transport, disclosed that the project is expected to be completed within 18 months. He added that it would be fully funded by the state government and is aimed at boosting economic activities and creating employment opportunities.
Responding, the Project Manager of the construction firm, , expressed appreciation to the state government for the confidence reposed in the company, assuring that the project would be delivered to the highest standards within the stipulated timeframe.
Meanwhile, the state government has commenced payment of compensation to residents of Zariagi, Kabba Junction and Irepeni communities affected by land acquisition for the proposed airport project.
Reacting, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, , described the contract award as a significant milestone in the administration of towards connecting the state to global opportunities through the establishment of an international airport.
He added that the government remains committed to completing the project and urged residents to safeguard public infrastructure as development efforts continue across critical sectors of the economy.
