Lagdo Dam Flood : NOA sensitize affected Kogi communities on need to relocate

…As Flood submerges 80% of communities

The Director General of National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu has ordered the quick relocation of residents in some affected communities in Kogi State affected by the impact by the release of the Cameroonia Lagdo Dam.

The Director General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu issued this order when the NOA sensitization team visited the affected flood prone communities.

Also, the Kogi State NOA office evaluation sensitization team has been directed to put in all efforts to achieve minimal impact on these communities with the hope that information will help communities to take hid to the warning and do what is necessary.

Communities sensitized include Edeha, a fishing community living off the Niger River lane in Koton Karfe.

Mainwhile, the flood has submerged 80% of the affected area.
According to a community leader Chief Abdul Ganiyu Dare said that NOA has commenced sensitization in nine communities likely to be affected by the release of water from the Ladgo Dam.

The Kogi State sensitization team led by Dr. Sandra Mimi Nura has commenced sensitization campaigns in communities including Adamuga, Akpaku, Oniwaru, Towards, Igamuma, Adabode, and Egaki communities.

The Maigari of Lokoja Alhaji Ibrahim kqbir Gambo who also met with the team expressed gratitude to NOA, noting that his people are accustomed to recurrent floods and are reluctant to leave their ancestral homes, saying NOA sensitization will help to change attitude of local community members.

Other locations visited are Ikpata Market, Ganaja, known locally as 500 Unit Ajaokuta LGA, as part of their efforts to assess the situation and provide support.
