Jegede Folorunsho, a 54-year-old man, has been remanded to the Ikoyi Correctional Centre in Lagos for the alleged defilement of an eight-year-old girl in the Mushin area of the state. The defendant was charged with the crime before Magistrate O.M. Ajayi at a Magistrate Court in the Ebute Metta area.
On Monday, the police presented Folorunsho with a remand application, requesting his remand in prison custody. They also sought permission to duplicate the case file for submission to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
According to the police prosecutor, Paul Ugorji, Folorunsho is accused of raping the victim at No. 4 Adegbite Lane, Mushin, Lagos, on October 4, 2023. The Mushin Police Division arrested the defendant after the victim filed a complaint, and the case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for a thorough investigation.
The charge against Folorunsho alleges a violation of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015. The 12-paragraph remand application states the details of the alleged offense.
The magistrate, after considering the remand application, ordered that Folorunsho be remanded in the Ikoyi Correctional Centre. Additionally, she directed the case file to be sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice. The case was adjourned until December 15, 2023, pending the advice from the DPP.
