The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has raised an urgent alarm about the growing threat posed by the Lakurawa terrorist group, which is now active in Nigeria’s northwest, particularly in Sokoto and Kebbi states.
Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the ACF’s publicity secretary, shared concerns on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television. He revealed that the terrorist group has established operational bases in the region and is taking control of local governance, even imposing its own justice system in defiance of traditional authorities.
Muhammad-Baba stressed that the group’s increasing influence represents a serious national security threat, calling for immediate action to safeguard Nigeria’s sovereignty and restore order in affected areas.
“This group is not new; the DSS is aware of their activities,” Muhammad-Baba said. “We initially thought they had been chased out, but it appears there was an agreement for them to either leave or face attack.”
He added, “This is a major national security concern. When a group like this sets up bases and takes control of local governance, it undermines our sovereignty and security.”
