Hon. Adamu Aliyu, member representing Jos North-North Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, has condemned the brutal attack on Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area that claimed several lives and left many injured.
The attack, carried out by unidentified gunmen on Sunday, was described by the lawmaker as “senseless, cowardly, and a direct assault on the peace-loving people of Jos North.”
In a statement issued on Monday, Hon. Aliyu expressed profound sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured. He prayed for the peaceful repose of the victims’ souls and a swift recovery for the wounded.
He urged all security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and other relevant authorities, to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation, apprehend the perpetrators, and ensure they face justice without delay.
“We cannot allow this cycle of violence and bloodshed to continue in our dear state. The security agencies must act swiftly and decisively to bring those responsible to account,” he said.
The lawmaker also appealed to residents, particularly youths, to remain calm, law-abiding, and refrain from any form of reprisal that could escalate tensions.
“I urge our youths and residents of Jos North to exercise maximum restraint and allow the security agencies to carry out their constitutional duties. Taking the law into our own hands will only worsen the problem and bring more hardship to our communities,” he emphasized.
Hon. Aliyu joined well-meaning citizens in praying for lasting peace in Jos North and Plateau State, saying: “May the Almighty God comfort the bereaved families, heal the injured, and grant us the peace that surpasses all understanding. Enough is enough. We must rise above violence and work together towards unity, tolerance, and sustainable development in Plateau State.”
He reaffirmed his commitment to the security and welfare of his constituents and pledged to continue engaging relevant authorities to improve the security architecture in the area.
Hon. Aliyu also commended the Plateau State Government under Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for swiftly imposing a 48-hour curfew in Jos North to restore order and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
