The Kogi State Government has announced a restriction on vehicular movement across the state on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., as part of measures to ensure a smooth and secure local council election.
This was disclosed in a statement by Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, and made available to journalists in Lokoja. The restriction aims to guarantee the safety of voters and residents in all 21 Local Government Areas during the election.
The statement also mentioned that security agencies have been directed to strictly enforce the restriction, with penalties for violators. The government urged citizens to turn out en masse to participate in the polls, which will allow them to elect representatives at the local government level.
“We express confidence in the capacity of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission to conduct a free, fair, and credible election across the state. We urge all citizens to remain peaceful and make their voices heard through the ballot,” Fanwo stated.
He further emphasized the importance of democracy as the free will of the people and assured the public that the state government will uphold law and order throughout the election process.
