Lockdown: Lawyers with disabilities set up palliative committee

The Association of Lawyers with Disabilities in Nigeria (ALDIN) on Tuesday constituted a pallative committe, following the consequential lockdown of states as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The President of ALDIN, Mr Daniel Onwe, made this known in a statement made available to our correspondent in Lagos.

“The palliative committee’s mandate is to raise funds to be distributed to members in order to alleviate the hardship imposed by the lockdown across the country,” he said.

Onwe said the move became necessary as the lockdown had left many lawyers financially handicapped.

“The move became expedient as lawyers have been forced to stay at home thus leading to a shutdown of their sources of income,” he stated.

According to him, the lockdown experience is particularly worse for lawyers with disabilities, whose situation is already critical prior to the order.

He said the two man-committee comprised the National Financial Secretary, P. N. Etumudon and the National Assistant General Secretary, Salami Abolarinwa.

Onwe said that the committee would work in conjunction with ALDIN state Chairmen to raise the fund.
