A man named Olumuyiwa has been apprehended by the Ogun State Police Command regarding the baffling case of over 1,300 missing chickens from a local farm. The chickens, valued at N8 million, went unaccounted for, leading to concerns and investigations.

The arrest followed a formal complaint lodged by the farm’s director, who goes by the name Bamgbose. On August 11, 2023, during a routine count of the poultry, it was discovered that a substantial number of chickens, totaling about 1,300 and valued at N8 million, were absent.

In a statement provided by Omolola Odutola, the State Police Public Relations Officer, the farm director expressed distress over the significant loss inflicted upon the poultry farm, particularly given the challenging economic circumstances at present.

In response to the situation, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, directed the initiation of a preliminary investigation. This effort resulted in the apprehension of Olumuyiwa, who is currently in police custody.

Odutola stated, “The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has been briefed and he has ordered more investigation. A preliminary investigation has commenced and the suspect has been apprehended and is presently in police custody to ascertain the extent or veracity of theft if he was stealing from the poultry farm and selling or eating them, all that will be made known soon to members of the public.”

Concurrently, the Ogun State Police Command also detained an individual named Shobakin for allegedly being involved in the theft of a motorcycle and generator in the Odeda area. Odutola confirmed that the Divisional Police Officer in Odeda has launched an investigation into the matter.

The suspect was brought to the station by Ojerinde Opeoluwa of Agbekoya Solidarity Movement of Nigeria, with possession of a dismantled unregistered motorcycle, a single-barrel gun, two Dane guns, and a Tiger generating set. Shobakin’s explanations regarding the origins of these items have been insufficient and vague.

As Odutola explained, “The suspect has not been able to give meaningful answers to the questions put across to him…he only muttered that one Mathew, surname yet unknown, brought the items to him.”

Pending a comprehensive clarification from the suspect regarding the source of the items, the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran for further discrete investigation. This incident stems from collaborative intelligence-sharing efforts among various security organizations within the state. Upon completion of the investigation, appropriate charges will be determined for the suspect, based on the findings.
