Must read

The Ogun State Police Command has announced it will prosecute Lekan Akinyemi, who was arrested for allegedly exhuming and beheading a corpse for ritual purposes in the Itoko area of Abeokuta, the state capital.

The arrest occurred on Monday after a resident reported suspicious activities around his father’s grave to the police. The resident discovered that his father’s corpse had been beheaded.

Police operatives from the Adatan Division responded promptly and arrested Akinyemi at the scene.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating, “A resident from Iyana Cele Car Wash, Abeokuta, reported unusual activities at their late father’s grave in Isale Itoko. Upon inspection, it was found that the head had been removed. Further inquiries led to the arrest of Lekan Akinyemi, who was caught red-handed.”

Odutola added that an investigation is underway and that Akinyemi would be prosecuted once the investigation is concluded. The case will be transferred to the State CID following an investigation by the Anti-Robbery Unit.

“The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has ordered a thorough investigation. The suspect will be prosecuted according to the law after the investigation,” Odutola said.

She assured residents of the police’s commitment to combating crimes and urged them to avoid engaging in ritual killings, stating that such practices are futile and punishable by law.
