Many feared killed in Plateau communnal clash

A clash between rival youths in the Mikang Local Government Area of Plateau State has resulted in numerous casualties, according to reports.

The conflict, which erupted on Saturday night and persisted until early Sunday, primarily involved Taroh and Motola youths in the area.

Musa Ashoms, the state Commissioner for Information, confirmed the incident, attributing it to a dispute over land in the region. He expressed regret over the loss of lives and the injuries sustained, emphasizing the need for peaceful resolution of conflicts.

According to Ashoms, the chairman of Mikang Local Government stated that the dispute arose from a piece of land with limited agricultural value, yet escalated due to the strong attachment people have to their land.

He urged individuals to seek alternative dispute resolution methods rather than resorting to violence.

Meanwhile, security personnel have been deployed to the affected area, and investigations into the incident are ongoing, as stated by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Alabo Alfred. The situation has since stabilized, with residents resuming their normal activities.
