Doris Ferdinand

The House of Representatives on Tuesday commenced investigation of capital projects for financial impropriety on MDAs.

Speaking at the committee session, the house leader, Rep. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa expressed disappointment over failure of Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government to appear before it for the investigation.

He said that the committee had the mandate of the House of Reps to enforce any law on erring MDAs.

He said that the Federal Government was committed to fighting corruption, adding that the 9th National Assembly would not tolerate any form of corruption.

The House leader further said that the investigation was not to harass anyone rather should serve as an avenue to extract useful information that would help the committee’s investigation.

Ado-Doguwa said that the committee would expose corrupt MDAs, adding that fund provided for projects should be used accordingly

Chairman of the Committee, Rep. Abubakar Makki encouraged MDAs to provide reliable and useful information in the course of the investigation.

He assured MDAs that any information provided would be treated with due diligence.

“The task before you is huge because appropriation is the only tools the government used to translate policies into reality,” he said.

He urged MDAs to engage with the committee to ensure a country that works for all, adding that the outcome would provide further action by the lawmakers.

Mr Bafunsho Tunde, the Chief Executive Office of Equity and Justice said that the process would lead to accountability in the country.

He said there was need for the restructuring of capital projects, adding that it was necessary to keep asking the right question to put the country on a sound footing.
