MDCN Tribunal Sentence 3 Doctors to 3 months Suspension over Misconduct, Acquits others

The Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal during the 12 Session sitting in Abuja has suspended three medical doctors to six months each to run concurrently over professional misconduct by conducting themselves infamously in the management of patients under their care.
Chairman of the Tribunal, Professor Abba Waziri Hassan who read the judgments on the the following erring doctors, Dr. Robert Osas Ikhu- Omoregie, a Consultant Gynaecologist and a public servant was prosecuted on a four count charge under the Code of Medical Ethic in Nigeria, 2008 Edition and Punishable under Section 16 (1) (a) and (2) of the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act CAP M8 LFN 2004 ( as amended) for gross negligence resulting in the death of a 60 year old patient, Mrs Elizabeth Peter Udueso who died on a surgery table at Lucia Wells Hospital, Bwari Area Council in Abuja while undergoing a surgical operation for the treatment of symptomatic fibroid.
Dr. Osas Ikhu-Omoregie was found guilty for gross malpractice and management of the patient and given a six months suspension to run concurrently with immediate effect.

Dr. Abdul- Bak Abduganiyu Ishola, a medical practitioner at Al Baki Muslim Hospital at Olojr, Kwara State was prosecuted on a five count charge for manifestly incompetent and negligent in the management of Alhaja Salimat Jawondo, now deceased.
Ahhaja Jawondo was diabetic with ulcer and appendicitis while seeking for treatment at Al- Baki Hospital.

Dr. Ishola was charged for conducting himself infamously in the care of Alhaja Salimat Jawondo which led to her death at the said hospital, Dr. Ishola was discharged and aquitted after careful investigation by the Tribunal and admonished to be of good conduct in his professional practice.

Furthermore the tribunal found Dr. Olajide Bola , whose patient was one Chidinma Mercy , (now deceased) guilty of all the 7 counts charge bothering on negligence, incompetence, mismanagement and sundry charges, he was sentenced him to 6 months suspension, to run concurrently.

While the respondent, Dr Gerald Nnwuegbuzie (who offered medical services to one Miss Lillian Nandi Solomon) was discharged and acquitted of all the charges against him.

All suspended Doctors, according to the chairman of the tribunal, will return to service after the expiration of their suspension.
