Nigerian actress Etinosa Idemudia has revealed that fellow actress Mercy Johnson came to her aid after she received death threats from her ex-husband.
Etinosa made the disclosure during a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, where she recounted how the threats began after she spoke about domestic abuse in a media interview.
According to the actress, she had attended an interview to promote a film titled Stormy Heart when she was asked about her love life. She explained that, being inexperienced at the time, she answered honestly and mentioned that a past relationship had almost cost her her life—without realizing the consequences of her words.
“I was very green then. I didn’t know how to dodge questions or redirect them,” she said. “They asked about relationships and I said one relationship nearly killed me. I mentioned it carelessly, and that person was my ex-husband.”
Etinosa said the media house ignored most of what she said about the film and instead focused on the marriage angle, which shocked her. Shortly after the interview was published, her ex-husband allegedly contacted her, accusing her of trying to ruin his career and demanding that she publicly retract her statements.
“He told me I should come out and say I only spoke because I’m a bitter ex. I asked him if he wanted me to put myself under the bus for him,” she said.
She added that the situation escalated when the threats became more frequent and severe, forcing her to cry out publicly on Instagram. While several people reached out to her, Etinosa said Mercy Johnson’s intervention stood out.
“She reached out to me because she has a strong military background,” Etinosa explained. “She told me she would forward the case to the Chief of Naval Staff. To cut the story short, someone from Abuja later contacted me and assured me they were handling the matter and that the person would no longer threaten me.”
According to DAILY POST, Etinosa was first married to a military officer, Babatunde Solomon. The marriage ended between 2017 and 2018. Her second marriage, to Benin-based lawyer Ighorosa, also ended in 2021, after the couple welcomed a child.
