Mikang Local government council of Plateau state,has flagged off the distribution of relief materials worth millions of naira to victims of communal clashes in Lalin District of the LGA.
Our correspondent reports are the items were presented to the council boss by the Plateau state government through the state emergency management agency (SEMA) .
It could be recalled that an outbreak of communal hostilities broke out a week ago which resulted in the destruction of properties and injuries among residents of villages bordering Langtang North and Mikang Local Government Areas.
At the flag-off ceremony yesterday in Mikang , the council boss said the materials were meant to ameliorate the suffering of the victim’s urgent needs.
He noted that the Governor Caleb Mutfwang led government is doing its best to restore lasting peace in the state .
He sympathised with the affected victims and advised them to make judicious use of the relief materials given to them to cushion the effect of their hardship.
The Council Boss commended the state government led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang for the prompt response in giving relief materials to reduce the suffering of the victims .
He reminded the victims to double their faith in God and pray for the success of Governor Caleb Mutfwangs administration in Plateau state .
Speaking earlier while presenting the items to the Council boss, the Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang represented by Engr Caeser Ashoms said he was troubled over the communal clashes and called for truce and dialogue.
He said “we would continue to stand with the people we are aware that several persons are displaced and that’s why we immediately directed the Plateau state emergency management agency (SEMA) to provide relief materials to victims of the attacks .”
He added the items to be distributed includes bags of rice ,maize ,cartoons of spaghetti , groundnut oil, mattresses and clothings and several other items.
” We would do more,this is from SEMA and it’s phase one of the distribution process , we would be expecting more items from other agencies” ,he added.
The ceremony also had in attendance Rt. (Hon) George Daika, the Special Adviser to the Governor on inter Parliamentary Matters, Hon.Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social welfare, Hon. Caroline Panglang Dafur, Hon Dio Lamul, Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Community Leaders, Heads of Security agencies , Party stalwarts and several other stakeholders.
