Moghalu, Global Experts to partake in UNDP Panel on Inequality

Professor Kingsley Moghalu, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and 2019 presidential candidate, will be part of a high-level panel of international economists convened by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Brookings Institution to discuss solutions to the challenges of poverty and inequality in Africa at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC on February 20, 2020.

The event, according to a statement by his spokesman Jide Akintunde, tagged “Understanding the Drivers of Inequality in Africa and Implications for Human Development”, is part of a series of events in global capitals to launch the 2019 edition of the Human Development Report, authored by the UNDP. Co-hosted by the UNDP and Brookings Institution.

The event will feature a high-level panel of experts in inequality and African economic development to discuss the economic, governance and security implications of the diverse and evolving inequalities across the continent.

The UNDP-Brookings Institution panel of discussants includes Prof. Moghalu; Dr. Carolina Sanchez-Paramo, Global Poverty Director, World Bank; Dr. Raymond Gilpin, Chief, Strategy and Analysis (Africa), UNDP; W. Gyude Moore, Visiting Fellow, Center for Global Development and former Minister of Public Works of Liberia; and Dr. Brahima Coulibaby, Senior Fellow and Director, Brookings Africa Growth Initiative (moderator).

Prof. Moghalu will also deliver a special guest lecture on “Nigeria’s Elusive Quest for Development: Politics, Governance, and Economic Policy” at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington DC on February 19, 2020.
