NAF kills bandit kingpin, police intensify Kaduna highways patrol

In Kaduna State, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully carried out operations targeting a notorious kidnap kingpin known as Janari and his gang. The air component of Operation Whirl Punch conducted air strikes on January 18, 2024, which resulted in the neutralization of Janari and several members of his syndicate. The kingpin was responsible for various kidnappings within Kaduna State and along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, confirmed the successful operation. He mentioned that the decision to strike was made after intelligence revealed that Janari and his cohorts were gathering for a potential attack or kidnapping. Subsequent exploitation confirmed the elimination of Janari and several other terrorists/kidnappers.

Similar successful air strikes targeting kidnappers were carried out near Chukuba in Niger State on January 20, 2024. The strikes resulted in the neutralization of confirmed terrorists and kidnappers, with positive feedback confirming the destruction of their hideouts.

In response to the surge in kidnapping incidents, security agencies are intensifying efforts to curb criminal activities. Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Command has heightened joint security patrols along major highways connecting Kano with states facing security challenges, including banditry and kidnapping. The joint patrols focus on routes linking Kano with Kaduna, Katsina, and Bauchi states. Additionally, significant police deployment has been made to Falgore Forest, notorious for harboring criminals, including cattle rustlers, armed robbers, bandits, and kidnappers.

The Kano State Police Command emphasizes its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the state. The deployment of armed personnel and engagement with communities to gather information on criminal activities are part of the comprehensive efforts to address potential security threats. The directive from the state Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, mandates Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to intensify patrols across the 44 local government areas in Kano State.
