NAF to Eradicate Banditry in Sokoto

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Sokoto State Government has pledged full support to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in its mission to eliminate banditry in the state.

Deputy Governor Alhaji Idris Muhammad Gobir made this commitment during a meeting with the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, at the Council Chamber, Government House, Sokoto. Gobir emphasized that this aligns with Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto’s dedication to combating insecurity in the state.

The Director of Press in the Deputy Governor’s office, Garba Muhammad, reported that the government is determined to restore peace across the state. The Deputy Governor also praised the strong working relationship between the state government and the security agencies operating in the region.

During the visit, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar stated that his visit was intended to evaluate the readiness of the 119 Composite Unit in the state. He assured that the Air Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, is committed to eradicating banditry in the Northwest and across the country.

Air Marshal Hassan declared that the days of the bandits are numbered, vowing to pursue them relentlessly. He noted that airstrikes against bandits have intensified, revealing that 23 bandits were neutralized in Shiroro through an airstrike yesterday.

He also acknowledged the state government for providing necessary infrastructure to support NAF operations at Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto.

Additionally, Air Marshal Hassan extended his condolences to the family and people of the state over the recent killing of the District Head of Gatawa by bandits. He emphasized that this tragic event underscores the urgent need for collective efforts to eliminate these criminals.
