Nasarawa: APC, PDP Commit to Peace Pact Ahead of Supreme Court Verdict

In anticipation of the Supreme Court judgment on the 2023 governorship election in Nasarawa State, the state police command facilitated a peace agreement between the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The peace pact, signed in Lafia on Monday, involved the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Nadada, emphasizing a commitment to dealing decisively with any individual engaging in trouble surrounding the judgment.

The Commissioner of Police stated, ‘This meeting is aimed at ensuring peace before, during, and after the Supreme Court judgment. It is also expected that the party leaders would bring this peace agreement to all their loyalists and supporters across the state.’

He warned against potential violent protests, noting that individuals going against the peace agreement would face consequences, regardless of their societal status. Nadada assured the representatives of both the APC and PDP that joint security forces would maintain neutrality in their activities.

The signing of the peace accord took place in the presence of various security agencies in the state. Representing the APC were the party’s state Chairman, Aliyu Bello, and the APC state Secretary, Yarus Dakusa. The PDP was represented by the state Organising Secretary, Yahaya Bunu, the party’s state Secretary, Adamu Bako, Woman Leader, Stella Oboshi, and Zonal Chairman, Isa Sule.

The peace pact aims to foster a conducive atmosphere before, during, and after the Supreme Court judgment, emphasizing cooperation between political parties and security forces to maintain stability in Nasarawa State.”
