The Nasarawa State Government has called for sustained investment in women and girls to drive economic growth and sustainable development, as it marked the 2026 International Women’s Day in Lafia.The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services, Hauwa Samuel Jugbo, made the call during the event themed “Give To Gain.”
Jugbo said the annual celebration provides an opportunity to assess progress made by women and address ongoing challenges affecting their development.She noted that women in Nigeria continue to contribute significantly across sectors such as agriculture, education, commerce, and public service, but still face barriers including limited access to finance and restricted economic opportunities.
“The theme underscores the importance of investing in women and girls as a pathway to sustainable development and prosperity,” she said. Jugbo commended women in the state for their role in development and acknowledged initiatives led by the First Lady of Nasarawa State, Silifat Abdullahi Sule, aimed at supporting vulnerable groups. She also highlighted the impact of the Renewed Hope Initiative championed by Oluremi Tinubu, noting that it has expanded opportunities for women’s economic empowerment and social inclusion.
The commissioner further praised Governor Abdullahi Sule for policies promoting gender equality and women’s rights. She urged women to take advantage of skills acquisition and empowerment programmes, while calling for collective efforts to build a more inclusive and equitable society.
