The National Assembly House Committee on Health has praised Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery in the state.
The commendation came from the Committee Chairman, Hon. Amos Gwabna Magaji, during an oversight visit to the Giginyu Primary Healthcare Centre in Kano.
Governor Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, reaffirmed the administration’s determination to ensure accessible and quality healthcare for all residents. He noted that Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care centres have been established across all 44 local government areas to tackle malnutrition and improve maternal and child health.
Hon. Magaji also applauded the state government for securing the accreditation of some primary healthcare centres to the next level of care. He described the move as a bold step toward universal health coverage and improved access to advanced services.
The lawmakers toured the facility alongside the Director General of the Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Prof. Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, and the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar. They briefed the Committee on progress in healthcare service delivery and insurance coverage in the state.
On behalf of the governor, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf expressed appreciation for the Committee’s recognition and pledged continued collaboration with federal authorities and development partners to strengthen healthcare at the grassroots.
The visit highlighted the need for stronger synergy between federal and state governments to improve health outcomes and expand quality services nationwide.
