NDLEA files drug trafficking charge against scavenger

Lagos, March 2, 2020 he National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday filed one-count charge of alleged trafficking in 500g  cannabis against a scavenger,  Ibrahim Dauda, in a Federal High Court, Lagos.

The NDLEA in a charge sheet, marked FHC/L/64C/20 by counsel, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, alleged that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 5.

He said that the defendant was arrested at Bashiru Owe St. near Computer School in Ikeja Lagos, while selling the illicit drug.

According to the prosecutor, cannabis is a banned narcotics similar to Heroine and other restricted hard drugs which are all listed in the NDLEA schedule as being prohibited.

The offence of drug trafficking contravened s the provisions of Sections 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation 2004.

The Act provides a penalty of life imprisonment if convicted on the offence.

No date has, however been fixed for arraignment of the defendant.
