The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Sokoto State has raided several notorious smoking joints and drug dens across Sokoto metropolis.
The operation, which covered Ahmadu Bello Way, Raymond Village, Kwannawa, Danbuwa, Aliyu Jodi, Kware Market, Hajiya Halima, and Gangaren Dankure, led to the arrest of 51 suspected drug users. The suspects include 40 males and 11 females, aged between 18 and 21.
Items recovered during the raids include Cannabis sativa, Rohypnol, Hypnole, and ice-smoking paraphernalia.
State Commander Mustapha M. Gidado said the command would sustain the operations until the state is rid of drug abuse. He also warned that premises used for drug-related activities risk being sealed and possibly forfeited to the federal government.
The commander appealed to parents to be more vigilant about their children’s activities.
NDLEA’s actions form part of a broader campaign against drug abuse and trafficking nationwide. Through the War Against Drug Abuse initiative, the agency has been holding sensitization programmes in schools, religious centres, and workplaces across the country, including Sokoto.
