The NELFUND portal, launched on May 24, is now accessible to students of tertiary institutions. President Bola Tinubu initially enacted the student loan policy in June 2023, aiming to provide interest-free loans to students. Although the scheme was supposed to commence in October 2023, its implementation was repeatedly delayed until it was re-enacted in April 2024.

Last month, NELFUND approved the disbursement of student loans to all successful applicants in its first rollout.
