Neuro-Psychiatrist Highlights the Positive Impact of a Healthy Sex Life on Mental Well-Being

By  Milcah   Tanimu

Dr. Kadiri, a neuro-psychiatrist, has underscored the favorable effects of a healthy sex life on one’s mental well-being. In observance of World Sexual Health Day, she emphasized the significance of engaging in consensual and respectful sexual experiences, which can enhance emotional intimacy and self-esteem.

Dr. Kadiri elaborated that participating in fulfilling sexual activity can trigger the release of endorphins, natural mood enhancers that alleviate stress and anxiety. This, in turn, fosters relaxation and bolsters overall emotional well-being.

She emphasized that sexual health is an integral facet of one’s general well-being and wields profound positive influences on an individual’s mental and emotional state. For instance, sexual activity’s capacity to unleash endorphins serves as a natural pain-relieving mechanism, proving particularly advantageous for those grappling with chronic pain conditions that impact mental health. Furthermore, regular sexual engagement can serve as an effective stress-relief strategy, reducing stress hormone levels and cultivating a sense of calm that enhances mental health.

Dr. Kadiri also acknowledged that cultural, societal, and personal factors play roles in shaping individuals’ perceptions and experiences of sex, ultimately affecting their mental well-being. Unfavorable experiences, sexual trauma, or relationship difficulties can have detrimental effects on mental health. Consequently, she stressed the importance of fostering open dialogues about sexual health within relationships and seeking professional assistance when necessary to address any issues that might impede mental well-being.
