NGO calls on ICPC to investigate NCDMB over alleged financial misappropriation

A non governmental orgsnisation (NGO), the Center for Fiscal Transparency and Integrity watch, has called on the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the alleged misappropriation of 9.9 billion naira (approxinately 6.6 million USD) by the Executive Secretary (ES) of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe.

The call is contained in a petition written by the NGO to the ICPC and obtained by our correspondent.

The NGO is also accusing the ES of approving the sum of 503 million naira for a workshop in London and also disbursing more than 400 million naira for an end-of-year party.

It also alledged that the sum of 9.9 billion naira (approximately 6.6 million USD) was authorized for consultancy services without following the appropriate legal and financial processes.

These funds according to the NGO were disbursed through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to a consultant, with no clear documentation or evidence that the consultant had met the criteria for receiving such a large financial outlay.

The statement noted that the ES actions, “violated procurement laws, regulations established under the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board Act, and the Public Procurement Act”.

These actions according to the petition are serious infractions and call to question the need to assess the implications for fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountabilty.
