In the first of its kind, American female rap star Nicki Minaj has been billed to perform in Saudia Arabia
The event ‘Jeddah Season cultural festival’ is set to take place at the King Abdullah Sports Stadium in the Red Sea city as the ultraconservative kingdom tries to shed its years of restrictions on entertainment.
Minaj whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj is expected to headline the festival on July 18.
The concert is expected to comply with Saudi Arabia’s laws as it is to be alcohol and drug-free and open to people of age 16 and above.
Known for her outlandish performances and flamboyant, hyper-sexualised image, Minaj’s performance has drawn protests from conservative Muslims.
