Nigeria illegal arms military local gun producers

By   Milcah   Tanimu

In a strategic move to address the increasing production and circulation of illegal arms in Nigeria, the military is considering engaging local gun manufacturers. This plan was hinted at by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, during his visit to front-line troops of Operation Safe Haven in Plateau State.

General Musa emphasized that harnessing the skills of law-abiding local producers of firearms and military equipment could help combat the illegal arms trade. He mentioned that this initiative would likely be executed in partnership with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON).

This announcement follows the review of a significant haul of locally-made arms and ammunition seized by Nigerian military troops in various regions across the country. The CDS further inspected military and operational equipment at the forward operation base, assuring that additional resources would be provided to enhance the welfare and operational capacity of the troops.

General Musa urged the soldiers under Operation Safe Haven to intensify their efforts to eliminate insurgency and banditry in their areas of operation, signaling a focused approach to tackling security challenges.
