The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully destroyed an arms storage facility belonging to one of the most wanted terrorists operating in Niger State. This operation was carried out under Operation WHIRL PUNCH, aimed at rooting out terrorists in the Northwest and North Central regions of Nigeria.
According to Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, spokesperson for the Airforce, credible intelligence led to the discovery of the terrorists’ storage facility. NAF aircraft conducted precision strikes on March 15, 2024, targeting and obliterating the logistics storage located in Palele near Shiroro, Niger State.
Gabkwet emphasized that the operation was meticulously planned, with authorization obtained before the strike. The destruction was confirmed by a secondary explosion, indicating the obliteration of arms and ammunition stored at the facility.
The weapons are believed to be linked to a notorious terrorist leader on the most-wanted list. Gabkwet highlighted that such operations significantly degrade the capabilities of terrorist elements, particularly in Kaduna and Niger States, reducing their ability to harm innocent civilians.
He called for continued support from the public in providing information about terrorist activities and other criminal elements, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in combating terrorism and ensuring the safety of communities.
