Nigerian Army Promotes First Female Officer Trained at UK Military Academy to Lieutenant

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has promoted Second Lieutenant Oluchukwu Owowoh to the substantive rank of Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army.

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) announced this on Wednesday via X.com. The statement highlighted Owowoh’s exceptional track record, which earned her the distinction of becoming the first Nigerian female officer trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom.

During the decoration ceremony held on June 26, 2024, at the Nigerian Defence Academy Officer’s Mess and Golf Club, NDA Commandant Major General JO Ochai praised Lt. Owowoh’s achievements. The event was attended by senior military officers, academic and non-academic staff, and family members.

In April, Owowoh made history as the first Nigerian female officer to graduate from the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
