Brigadier-General Ibikunke Ajose, acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 8 Division, has called on Nigerian media to support the military’s fight against terrorism by providing accurate and balanced reporting. During a meeting in Sokoto with the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondent Chapel, led by Chairman Mallam Harisu Habibu, Ajose emphasized the crucial role of the media in fostering public trust and understanding of the military’s efforts.
Ajose highlighted that strong media-military collaboration could advance national security and improve public awareness of the army’s activities. “The army cannot operate without the media ready to project its activities in a positive light, making the public understand that the country is getting better,” he said. He urged journalists to maintain professionalism and patriotism, ensuring that news coverage supports unity and peace.
Habibu Habisu praised the military’s role in enhancing security, noting the improved safety along the Sokoto-Gusau-Funtua route. Both parties agreed on the importance of ongoing collaboration to boost security efforts nationwide.
