Nigerian Artists Shine with 2024 VMA Nominations

Nigerian musicians have made a significant impact at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards with several top Afrobeats stars receiving nominations.

Burna Boy, Tems, Ayra Starr, Davido, Lojay, and Pheelz are among the nominees in the Best Afrobeats category, highlighting the global appeal of the genre. Burna Boy’s track “City Boy,” Tems’ “Love Me JeJe,” and Ayra Starr’s “Last Heartbreak Song” featuring Giveon are all nominated. Pheelz is recognized for his role on Usher’s “Ruin,” while Davido and Lojay are acknowledged for their contributions to Chris Brown’s “Sensational.”

The VMAs also feature prominent global artists with Taylor Swift leading the nominations with 10, followed by Post Malone with 9. Ariana Grande, Eminem, and Sabrina Carpenter each have 6 nominations.

The 2024 VMAs will be held at the USB Arena in New York on September 11.
