Nigerian Think Tank Partners with Japanese Firm for Blockchain Research

By   Milcah   Tanimu

The Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER) has forged a strategic partnership with Soramitsu, a leading Japanese technology firm, to enhance blockchain technology knowledge among its research faculty. This collaboration aims to advance understanding in areas such as SORA, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), and Hyperledger Iroha.

Soramitsu will focus on these specific blockchain technologies, helping NISER build a robust knowledge base. The partnership is set to support Nigeria’s developmental objectives by leveraging innovative blockchain projects to foster financial inclusion and address economic inefficiencies.

This initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader commitment to blockchain adoption. In July, reports highlighted Nigeria’s plans to develop a national blockchain and train 1,000 citizens in AI, blockchain, and other emerging technologies. This effort is part of Nigeria’s ambition to lead Africa’s digital transformation.

By collaborating with Soramitsu, NISER gains access to extensive blockchain expertise, which will be instrumental in shaping effective policies and supporting national development.
