Nigeria’s COVID-19 Cases Top 3,000, Death Toll Hits 103

The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the country has surged past the mark of 3,000.

This follows the latest update on the outbreak released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday night.

According to the health agency, 195 new cases of COVID-19 were reported across 12 states of the Federation, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

While the government is gradually easing the lockdown, Lagos has the highest figure of new infections with 82 cases, followed by Kano which has 30.

Zamfara also reported 19 new cases, Sokoto has 18, Borno recorded 10, FCT has nine, and Oyo reported eight infections.

The remaining states are Kebbi – five, Gombe – five, Ogun – four, Katsina – three, Kaduna – one, and Adamawa – one.

According to the NCDC, Nigeria recorded five new deaths, raising the number of those who have died from the disease.

On a positive note, 53 more COVID-19 patients have been discharged after they tested negative twice for the disease.

Of the total figure, 37 people comprising 19 females and 18 males. including an Indian national recovered in Lagos.

A spokesman for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Gboyega Akosile, explained in a tweet that the patients were discharged from the isolation facilities at Yaba, Onikan, and Eti-Osa (LandMark) to reunite with the society.
