NiMet Forecasts Three Days of Haziness, Thunderstorms Nationwide

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting haziness and thunderstorms across various parts of the country from Tuesday to Thursday.

In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, NiMet said slight dust haze is expected over parts of Katsina and Kano states on Tuesday. Thunderstorms are also likely in parts of Taraba and Adamawa during the afternoon and evening.

For the North Central region, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected, with thunderstorms anticipated later in the day over parts of Kogi, Kwara, Benue, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In the South, morning thunderstorms may occur in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa, while later in the day, storms are forecast in Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo, Edo, Imo, Abia, Delta, Lagos, and other southern states.

On Wednesday, sunny intervals are expected in the North, with afternoon thunderstorms in Taraba and Adamawa. Thunderstorms are also projected for the FCT, Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Niger, and Nasarawa in the North Central. Southern states including Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom may experience morning storms, with more widespread thunderstorms across the region later in the day.

By Thursday, hazy and sunny skies are forecast for the North and North Central regions, with thunderstorms expected in parts of the FCT, Kwara, Kogi, Niger, and Nasarawa. The South will see morning storms in Delta and Bayelsa, followed by widespread thunderstorms across most of the southern region by evening.

NiMet warned of strong winds that may precede thunderstorms and advised the public to take precautions. Those with respiratory issues should be cautious due to dust in the air, and residents are urged to secure loose items, avoid driving in heavy rain, and unplug electrical devices during storms.

Airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific forecasts for flight planning, and the public is encouraged to stay updated through NiMet’s official channels at www.nimet.gov.ng.
