The Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Ilorin, says no student of the institution is has contracted Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The management of the university also what it described as a malicious report in the social media that one of its students tested positive to Coronavirus.
Mrs Hamidat Yusuf, the Acting Director, University Relations, said in a statement on Thursday in Ilorin that report was false and in bad faith.
“A report from the KWASU Medical Director, says no KWASU student has presented with symptoms of COVID-19.
“The school clinic does not have the facility to test for COVID-19, moreso the result of such tests cannot be obtained in less than seven days.
“No student of Omowumi hostel presented with symptoms similar to that of COVID-19 today or any other day.
“Therefore, there is no directive in effect to staff and students of the Institution to stay indoors,” the statement read.
It added that KWASU as a globally competitive institution placed great emphasis on the welfare of its staff and students, the host community and the country at large.
“As a global player in the education sector, KWASU has put in place measures to safeguard its community against COVID-19.
“One is the provision of non-contact IR Thermometers, used at the entrance of the Institution, as well as a notice to students and prohibiting large gathering of students.
“Also, excursions outside the state, until further notice and a directive for maintenance of personal and environmental hygiene, among others.
“The Management of the school frowns at false information targeted at creating panic in the University and a negative image of the Institution,” the statement read in part.
Daybreak reports that the fake report claimed that a KWASU student tested positive to COVID-19 on Thursday morning after showing symptoms and approached the school clinic for test which later came out positive.
