Northern Group: Zamfara Transformed into a Safe Haven for Terrorists, Highlights Insecurity.

Northern Emancipation Network Raises Concerns Over Zamfara State’s Reverting Status as Safe Haven for Various Terrorist Groups Amid Recent Killings. In a recent statement issued by its Secretary General, Sulaiman Abbah, the group urged Zamfara state Governor, Dauda Lawal, to depart from Abuja and prioritize governance by returning to the state. The group placed the responsibility for the deteriorating security situation in the state squarely on the governor, accusing him of neglecting his duty by spending the majority of his time in Abuja instead of addressing the issue.Despite previous government efforts to curb insecurity, the group highlighted the worsening situation. They expressed the opinion that the governor seemed disinterested in finding solutions to the security challenges faced by the state. They further emphasized that the people were living and dying under the control of killers, kidnappers, rapists, and various criminal groups. These groups have recently deprived the people of their right to live in peace and security. The group strongly emphasized that Zamfara was once again becoming a safe haven for various terrorist groups, dismissing the characterization of the criminal elements as mere bandits. They highlighted that killers and criminals sensed a void in leadership at the highest levels of the state government, which led to their increased confidence and competence in undermining the security of the state and its people.

The group expressed deep concern over the lack of appropriate response from those responsible for protecting the people of Zamfara, as they witnessed a significant number of villages being emptied due to constant attacks. This resulted in hundreds of people relocating to already congested urban areas, exacerbating poverty.

They pointed out the unprecedented situation where the popular Shinkafi market had been completely overrun by criminals, leading to the paralysis of all activities and its abandonment.

The group urged the governor of Zamfara to cease his unnecessary travels to Abuja and focus on ensuring the security of the people who entrusted their lives and future to his care. They asserted that the people of Zamfara did not vote for the governor to engage in meaningless pursuits, such as quarrels over vehicles and other individuals’ property, but to work towards improving their living conditions.
