NSCDC Issues Stern Warning to Niger Delta Commandants Over Oil Theft

NSCDC Commandants in Niger Delta States Warned to Comply with Presidential Order on Oil Sector Security. NSCDC Commandants in Niger Delta States Receive Orders to Intensify Efforts Against Oil Theft and Vandalism

Dr. Ahmed Audi, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has summoned the commandants in the affected states to the Corps’ national headquarters in Abuja. During the meeting held yesterday, Audi instructed them to immediately reorganize their anti-vandal units to combat oil theft and vandalism of critical national assets.

In a communiqué issued by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, it was emphasized that President Bola Tinubu has declared a zero-tolerance policy towards crude oil theft, illegal oil bunkering, and other illicit activities in the petroleum sector. Consequently, anyone found aiding or abetting economic saboteurs will face severe legal consequences.

The CG stated that the meeting was necessary to relay President Tinubu’s directive to eradicate all forms of malpractices in the oil sector. He emphasized that oil remains the backbone of the nation’s economy, and it is crucial to reinvigorate anti-vandal units to combat oil theft in compliance with the Federal Government’s instructions.

Audi urged the state commandants to maintain round-the-clock surveillance of oil facilities throughout the country. He encouraged them to collaborate with host communities, gather credible information and intelligence, and effectively counter the menace of oil theft.

The CG also stressed the importance of safely securing all exhibits and maintaining the security of exhibit centers. He warned that his administration would not tolerate compromises or unethical behavior from any command or personnel. State commandants will be held accountable for any incidents of oil theft, indiscipline, or breakdown of law and order in their respective jurisdictions.

“As the primary agency responsible for protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, we must show determination and resilience in the fight against crude oil theft,” Audi declared. He highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to transforming the situation and urged the personnel to work in synergy and collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders to minimize crude oil theft.
