NSIB Trains Military Personnel in Multimodal Transport Investigation

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has successfully trained officers from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, and its own staff in multimodal transport accident investigation. This initiative reflects NSIB’s commitment to improving transportation safety in line with the vision of Mr. Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development.

In a statement, Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, NSIB’s Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, emphasized that the training featured expertise from Cranfield University and Buckinghamshire New University in the UK, alongside specialists from Nigeria’s Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) and other organizations.

The program aimed to equip both NSIB personnel and military investigators with advanced skills and global best practices to enhance transport investigations in Nigeria. Oladeji noted that this training represents a significant milestone for NSIB in delivering world-class investigations and preventive measures.

The integration of military personnel with NSIB’s investigators fostered a multidisciplinary approach, promoting comprehensive knowledge transfer and cross-sectoral collaboration, which is crucial for ensuring transportation safety in Nigeria’s growing economy.

Capt. Alex Badeh Jr., the Director-General of NSIB, explained that the training’s goal was not only to improve technical investigation skills but also to address the increasing complexity of Nigeria’s transportation infrastructure.

“By involving military institutions and incorporating international expertise, we’re building a safety culture that will benefit all Nigerians,” Badeh Jr. stated. He highlighted that this initiative aligns with the Minister’s focus on raising safety standards and modernizing protocols in the aviation sector.

The training is expected to significantly enhance NSIB’s ability to conduct thorough and impartial investigations, contributing to accident prevention and ultimately saving lives. This initiative also supports NSIB’s long-term goal of becoming a leading authority in transportation safety across Africa, positioning Nigeria as a model for safety practices in the region.
