The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Kano has remained vibrant under various General Managers, except for a few, including Sani Hanga, Bashir Yaradua, and AbdurRashid.
As a former employee of NTA from 2009 to 2020, I experienced different leadership styles under several General Managers, including the current Director-General, Abdulhamid Dembos, from Adamawa State.
My decision to write this article was prompted by a recent visit to Kano, where I went to congratulate my fellow comrade, Ibrahim Waiya, on his appointment as the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs. During my visit, I encountered NTA Kano’s General Manager, Sani Hanga, behaving in an unprofessional manner in the Commissioner’s office.
In my presence, Hanga introduced himself to Commissioner Waiya as a transparent leader. He questioned the Commissioner about his management team and why he had come alone. Suddenly, he turned to me and referred to me as his former staff, which was incorrect. I never worked under Hanga as my General Manager. At the time of my employment at NTA, he was only a Level 10 officer, while I was hired as a Level 8, Step 2 officer as a university graduate.
I urge the leadership of NTA to ensure that General Managers work collaboratively with their management teams rather than acting alone. A lack of teamwork often creates opportunities for corruption.
