The President Buhari newly appointed Chairman, National Teachers Institute (NTI), Professor Musa Garba Maitafsir while answering questions from newsmen in Sokoto said the Institute has set modernities to improve the standard of education in the country through employing qualified teachers coupled with training and retraining processes.
He said it is partly the responsibility of all teachers to make pupils understand and consume what was delivered to them during lectures, adding that most of the teachers have no teaching techniques of delivery sitting an example to a trained teacher who is competent can make pupils understand through continuous repetition and that the teacher must open brain box structure of the learner before he starts to go in.
” If you don’t show that you are responsible, no body will consider you responsible, a very responsible teacher would influence the learner to change his speaking and consider his pupil as a very important person”, averred the Professor.
At the time he secured admission for masters degree at University of Lagos to study Guiding and Counselling course, after completing the process of registration, the first lecture he duly attended was delivered by Dr. Patricia Bello who was a Psychologist, but according to him, the way she handled the course made him forfeit the fat scholarship awarded to him for the course and changed to Education Psychology. “So if teachers are responsible and competent, their is no way virtue cannot recognize and acknowledge them”.
He further said education psychology holds moral development, and that host moral development all the people are thinking is something to do with religion, which is not, just confine to religious circle, what I am saying is when a teacher is qualified, all teachers are bonafide councilors that is the reason we now have formula in education psychology-1 is equal to 6,1, and 1, 611,you have two hours to teach or 40 minutes to teach, as a teacher you divide your lesson work to one third as one potion is to prepare your students while another potion is for the lecture and the last part revision.
