NUJ Award to Speaker Will Promote Effective Legislation, Good Governance in Delta — CPS

By Anne Azuka

The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, has stated that the 8th Assembly, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, remains committed to promoting effective legislation and good governance in Delta State.

Nwaeke made this remark while reacting to the “Most Outstanding Steward in Legislative Business” award conferred on his principal by the Delta State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Describing the award as a well-deserved recognition, Nwaeke highlighted the Speaker’s remarkable achievements in legislative duties and his impressive track record since the inauguration of the 8th Delta State Assembly on June 13, 2023.

He noted that Rt. Hon. Guwor has remained focused on consolidating the gains of the previous Assembly while introducing innovative initiatives to drive result-oriented legislation and foster strong camaraderie among stakeholders in the state legislature.

As the Presiding Officer of the House, Guwor has ensured that the three core functions of the legislature—lawmaking, representation, and oversight—remain paramount in members’ minds by providing the necessary direction and leadership, Nwaeke stated.

Acknowledging the NUJ’s role in promoting excellence in governance and leadership, the Chief Press Secretary expressed gratitude to the Delta State Council for honoring Guwor with the “Most Outstanding Steward in Legislative Business, 2024” award. He noted that the recognition holds great significance for the Speaker.

Nwaeke emphasized that the NUJ’s action reflects the union’s confidence in Guwor’s ability to drive positive change in the state, adding that the Delta Assembly, under his leadership, will remain committed to serving the people.

On behalf of other aides, the Chief Press Secretary congratulated the Speaker on the prestigious recognition, describing it as a well-earned acknowledgment of his dedication, both as the Presiding Officer of the Delta State Assembly and as a National Officer of the Conference of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria.

“The NUJ’s choice of our boss for the prestigious ‘Most Outstanding Steward in Legislative Business, 2024’ award is a vote of confidence in his ability to drive positive change, particularly in Delta State,” Nwaeke stated.

“It is well deserved, as Mr. Speaker has demonstrated exceptional leadership and legislative excellence. We appreciate the NUJ’s recognition of his efforts and remain deeply grateful to the union for this honor,” he added.
