The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, FCT Chapter, Comrade Grace Ike has urged journalists to join their voices and reportage to amplify the need for increased voluntary blood donations, as Nigeria faces the challenge of blood shortage.
Comrade Ike made this call on Monday at the Media Parley on the 2025 National Blood Service Agency, (NBSA) Blood Donor Day held in Abuja.
She commended the NBSA for their bold initiative in having a Media Parley specifically on blood donation.
Ike said, ” As journalists, we must use our voices wisely. We must do all we can to amplify stories that matter, particularly when they have to do with humanity and when we carry positive messages on blood donation.”
“We are helping our country build a safer and stronger health system every day; many hospitals in the country struggle to get enough blood.”
She noted that owing to the shortage of blood donation challenges, many families under pressure
during emergencies because of the non-availability of blood.
She there appealed that more Nigerians should come out to donate blood voluntarily and regularly, so that many lives will be saved.
