The Sokoto State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) commends the ongoing roads construction in the Ramen Kura Kara and Tudun Wada areas of Sokoto North Local Government, describing it as a crucial step to alleviate challenges, especially during the rainy season.

The release jointly signed by state chairman and Secretary, Dalhatu Abdullahi S/Magori and Muhammad Nasir Bello further said the Council appreciates the Sokoto State government’s intervention, believing that these projects will significantly improve the poor conditions of the affected areas’ and enhance their socio-economic prospects upon completion.

Furthermore, the Union acknowledges the ongoing beautification efforts in Sokoto Metropolis.

However, the Council called on the State government to address the economic hardship faced by State and Local government Civil Servants, as monthly salaries are becoming inadequate amidst the high cost of living.

The Council proposes that the State government do consider providing assorted grains to Civil Servants, similar to initiatives in other states, to alleviate their financial constraints.

Additionally, the Council appeals to the State government to join other states in implementing a N35,000 Wage award for State Civil Servants, to mitigate the impact of Fuel Subsidy removal, especially on junior workers.
