NYSC DG Issues Warning to Corps Members on Travel Safety

By Alex Tsado

The Director-General (D-G) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a stern warning to corps members, emphasizing the importance of cautious travel to avoid accidents and kidnapping incidents. The D-G reiterated the NYSC’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the welfare and security of corps members throughout their service year. He discouraged corps members from making unnecessary requests for relocation to different states, emphasizing the potential impact on the overall service year experience.

In addition, the D-G encouraged corps members to actively participate in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training. He highlighted NYSC’s collaborative efforts with banks and foundations to provide interest-free loans for corps members with marketable skills and innovative ideas.

Assuring the safety of prospective corps members during the orientation exercise, the D-G mentioned that security agencies have deployed patrols and guards along routes to orientation camps. He commended the collaborative initiatives between NYSC and institutes in organizing technologically driven skills acquisition programs, aiming to make corps members self-reliant and potential employers.

The NYSC Coordinator in the state expressed appreciation for the corps members’ positive conduct during the orientation exercise, noting their active participation and cooperation with camp officials and security agencies.
