An NYSC corps member and several other travellers have been abducted along the Biu–Damaturu road in Borno State, following an attack on Saturday afternoon, according to a local activist. The incident reportedly occurred between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. when armed men blocked the highway and seized passengers travelling in four private vehicles, said Rev. Kallamu Musa Ali Dikwa, a Kanuri-born activist, in a statement shared on Sunday. He said the abductees were taken toward the Sambisa axis.
Dikwa added that a young woman initially taken during the attack was later released after a driver reportedly told the attackers she was his wife. This account could not be independently verified.Security agencies have not officially confirmed the incident or the number of victims as of the time of filing this report. Efforts to reach the Borno State Government for comment were unsuccessful before publication.
The Biu–Damaturu corridor has experienced intermittent security incidents in recent years, prompting calls for increased patrols and intelligence-led operations to protect commuters.Residents and travellers have urged authorities to strengthen security presence on major highways in the state, particularly along routes linking southern Borno to the state capital.
