NYSC says there is no new salary order for members of the corps

By Jennifer Y Omiloli

Serving members of the corps who were expecting N30,000 new minimum wage to be paid will have to wait a little longer as the national service scheme said that there is no order yet to begin payment.

Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim, director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), announced this to reporters in Abuja.

Shuaibu said payment can only start after the finance minister has given the effect a directive.

He however said the members of the corps should not worry because they would definitely benefit from the new wage.

He also urged local governments to do more for members of the corps as the NYSC specifically spells out this.

On his part, youth minister Sunday Dare also urged state and local governments to provide an enabling atmosphere on members of the corps.
