The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has unveiled plans to replicate the Healthy Living Initiative championed by Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Governor of Anambra State, in all 179 communities within the state. Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma, the State Coordinator of NYSC in Anambra, made this announcement during a symposium on Healthy Living Advocacy organized by the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) youths at the ASATU Secretariat Hall in Awka, the state capital.
Represented by Mr. Emeka Ugwu, Assistant Director of Information at NYSC, Anambra State, the Coordinator emphasized the nobility of the Healthy Living project and its similarity to NYSC’s Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers. As a result, she proposed its adoption and implementation in all 179 communities across the state. The NYSC boasts a team of Corps doctors, pharmacists, nurses, physiotherapists, and other paramedics ready to carry out the initiative, covering areas such as sensitization campaigns, medical checkups, counseling, diagnosis, referral, and prescription.
Mrs. Iruma clarified that communities seeking the NYSC’s assistance for medical outreach events are expected to provide the necessary drugs for the occasion. The Healthy Living project encompasses various aspects, including nutrition, environmental sanitation, personal hygiene, relaxation, exercise, walks, health education, routine medical checkups, and the promotion of community shared values.
The Coordinator urged ASATU youths to raise awareness in their communities about the collaboration between NYSC and the First Lady of Anambra State, encouraging them to invite NYSC teams to assist rural dwellers in adopting a healthy lifestyle.
