Ododo Orders Appointees to Return to LGAs for Grassroots Mobilisation on CVR

By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has directed all commissioners and top political appointees to return to their respective local government areas (LGAs) to lead grassroots mobilisation for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The directive, according to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, takes effect from Monday, September 1, 2025. Fanwo reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to deepening grassroots governance and ensuring massive voter participation in the electoral process.

The circular, issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Folashade Arike Ayoade, stated that government appointees are to participate in the exercise under the coordination of the highest-ranking appointee in each LGA. They are expected to oversee registration mobilisation at ward level and submit detailed reports on the number of new voters registered in their councils.

Governor Ododo stressed that governance must go beyond the state capital, insisting that officials remain accessible and responsive to the needs of their communities.

“The era of governance being conducted solely from the state capital must give way to direct engagement with the people at the grassroots,” the governor said.

The directive further warned that any appointee who intends to leave their LGA during the mobilisation period must obtain prior written approval from the Secretary to the State Government or face disciplinary action.
