Oil Theft War: Idjerhe Monarch Calls for National Honour for Tompolo

By Anne Azuka

The Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, His Royal Majesty King Monday Arthur Whiskey, Udurhie I, has urged President Bola Tinubu to confer a national honour on High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, in recognition of his remarkable efforts in combating crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region.

Speaking to journalists at his palace in Idjerhe, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, Udurhie I highlighted Tompolo’s achievements as the Chairman of Tantita Security Services Limited. He noted that the firm’s efforts have significantly boosted Nigeria’s crude oil production and safeguarded the environment.

The Monarch credited the recent attainment of 1.8 million barrels per day, as declared by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), to Tantita’s effectiveness.

“Tompolo has achieved what many thought impossible. He has not only protected vital national installations but also taken immense personal risks to combat oil cabals siphoning Nigeria’s resources,” the Monarch said.

Key Achievements Highlighted by Udurhie I:

  1. Boost in Oil Production:
Udurhie I praised Tantita Security for increasing Nigeria’s daily crude oil output from less than one million barrels to 1.8 million barrels, with efforts ongoing to reach two million barrels per day.
  2. Environmental Restoration:
The Monarch noted significant improvements in the Niger Delta environment, with cleaner water and a revival of aquatic life due to Tantita’s operations.
  3. Employment Creation:
The project has provided substantial employment opportunities for Niger Delta youth, introducing them to advanced technological tools and reducing unemployment in the region.

Udurhie I emphasized the need for the federal government to expand and consistently fund Tantita Security Services to sustain these gains.

He concluded, “The federal government must recognize Tompolo’s contributions by conferring on him a national honour. His achievements have enhanced oil production, preserved the environment, and provided employment. This is a feat deserving of celebration and support.”
