Ondo Varsity Assures Parents and Students of Enhanced Security Measures

Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko in Ondo State, has reassured students and their parents of enhanced security on campus and within the surrounding community. This follows recent concerns over violent attacks that have led to student fatalities.

Victor Akinpelumi, Head of Information, Protocol, and Public Relations at the university, emphasized the institution’s commitment to student safety. The university is responding to security concerns that have arisen in the Akungba Akoko community, affecting students, especially those living off-campus.

In a statement released on Thursday, Akinpelumi outlined the proactive measures being taken to address these issues. “The management recognizes the seriousness of the security situation around Akungba and its impact on our students’ sense of security,” he said. The university is collaborating with security authorities to enhance safety measures, including requesting additional security personnel for increased patrols around the campus and nearby areas.

Akinpelumi explained that the heightened security presence aims to deter criminal activities and capture suspected criminals. The university is working closely with the Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to develop a coordinated response to the challenges. Regular meetings are held to ensure alignment in protective efforts.

Additional measures include improved campus surveillance, better lighting in critical areas, and regular security patrols. The university is also strengthening its relationship with the local community through dialogue and collaboration with community leaders and stakeholders.

Students are encouraged to stay vigilant, report suspicious activities, and use available safety resources. The university’s management is committed to creating a secure environment that allows students to focus on their studies without fear.

Akinpelumi also appreciated the cooperation and patience of students and parents, highlighting that their support and vigilance are crucial for maintaining safety. He urged anyone with valuable information on security issues to contact the University’s Security Unit or the Public Relations Unit.

Earlier, Oyindamola Boladale, President of the Students’ Union Government, had appealed to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for enhanced security in the university community. Boladale described the recent incidents as creating a dangerous environment where armed robberies have led to student casualties and heightened fear among students and their families.
